No. 1 vs. No. 2: Who Do You Take?

The state's top two Class 5A teams will square off on Saturday night

When former No. 1 Katy lost to The Woodlands last weekend, it set up a titanic clash in DFW this weekend when the newly crowned No. 1 team in the AP Class 5A poll, Cedar Hill, will take on No. 2 Euless Trinity, fresh off its dismantling of Bingham (Utah) at JerryWorld on Monday.

Cedar Hill (2-0) will get back the services of speedy running back Ben Malena, who's committed to Texas A&M and suffered a sprained ankle in the Longhorns season opener. He missed Cedar Hill's shutout of Wichita Falls Rider a week ago, but is expected to return. Trinity, aside from its famed Haka pregame ritual, has a pretty good running back itself in junior Tevin Williams, who rushed for 211 yards and three scores on Monday.

That's one big issue involved in this game. Cedar Hill has a week and a day between games. Trinity? The Trojans have just four days rest after playing on Monday.

Cedar Hill is one of the most talented teams in the state with the likes of Malena, linebacker Aaron Benson (UT commit) and guard Adam Shead (OU commit). Not to mention the Longhorns' quarterback, Driphus Jackson, who's one of the better junior quarterbacks in the area.

Trinity's old-school smashmouth rushing attack will be tough to stop, there's no doubt. But I think Cedar Hill will stop it just enough to win.

Prediction: Cedar Hill 34, Euless Trinity 30
