Newy: Cowboys Defensive End Taco Charlton Is Now an E-R-W

Hall of Fame head coach Bill Parcells had a saying for guys like Dallas Cowboys defensive end Taco Charlton. He would call the 2017 first-round draft pick out of Michigan an E-R-W.

E-R-W stands for Eat, Ride and Warm-Up.

Parcells hated ERWs because they couldn't help him win on Sundays. To his disgust the ERWs would eat the team meal, ride the team bus to the game, warm up and that was it. Those players were never active for the game and just stood on the sidelines in a Cowboys T-shirt and hat.

That is what it has come to for Charlton's career in Dallas. He was benched to start the season. Dallas made him inactive for their wins over the Giants and Washington despite the fact that starting defensive end Robert Quinn served a suspension for both contests.

He went on Twitter Monday, and begged the Cowboys to let him go. He tweeted, "Free Me." Charlton later deleted the tweet.

When asked about his disgruntled defensive end Monday afternoon, Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett replied, "Yeah, I really don't spend much time on social media."

I think it's clear the Cowboys will probably move on from Charlton via trade or just outright release. The defensive coaches have soured on him. I can't imagine he is getting any respect in the organization, moaning and groaning about not playing on social media.

The Cowboys didn't want their 2017 first round pick to fail, but he's been a bust. His work ethic has been questioned. The word used to describe Charlton is "entitled." That doesn't fit what Garrett wants on his team. The head coach has a motto for the Cowboys and it is "FIGHT." This year's word is "DRIVEN." Bottom line, Charlton is not the "right kinda guy" for this 2019 Cowboys team.
