New Cowboy AJ Jenkins Hoping Third Team's the Charm

Jenkins was a first round pick by the San Francisco 49ers back in 2012

The Dallas Cowboys’ newest receiver, AJ Jenkins, is on his third NFL team. And he knows well that if things don’t work out in Dallas, he could very well be on his way out of the league.

My clock is ticking, I know that,” Jenkins said, per ESPN Dallas. “So I’ve got to hurry up and make plays and do something. The Cowboys gave me an opportunity. I’m just grateful for the opportunity.”

An Illinois product, Jenkins was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers with the 30th overall pick in the 2012 draft, and promptly disappeared. He was targeted all of once in his rookie season and was traded to the Chiefs after the season. In two years in Kansas City, he caught 17 passes for 223 yards. He’s still looking for his first NFL touchdown.

“I know how it looks. I definitely know how it looks,” Jenkins said. “But just the position I was put in at that point and time, I don’t really see myself as being a failure or nothing like that. I got to find my way. It’s the right opportunity. It’s the right everything. It’s got to happen.”
