NFL Week 9: What We Learned

Nick Foles' seven-TDs put Philly back in playoff discussions, for now.

Peyton Manning grabbed headlines with his seven-TD performance in week one, but Nick Foles' 406-yard, seven TD act of domination will get eve more people talking. But Foles wasn't the only player who was working it in week nine. Andre Johnson and T.Y. Hilton's remarkable three-TD nights will have just as many people talking at the water cooler as well.

Here's What Else We Learned:

Jets Roller Coaster Continues: Just a week after Andy Dalton and the Bengals decimated Gang Green, their defense stepped up against a much tougher opponent in the New Orleans Saints. Although Saints TE Jimmy Graham had a monster game with nine catches and a TD, the Jets gave up just 41 yards rushing and had a pair of sacks and two interceptions in a 26-20 win. Add in four field goals from Nick Folk, who hasn't missed a field goal all season and 139 yards rushing from the streaky Chris Ivory and the Jets continue to keep themselves above water.

Tale of Two Games: Andre Johnson Gets to Drink From TD Fountain After Super Drought/ T.Y. Hilton Steps Up: It took Johnson nine games to get in the end zone this season, but he made the wait worth it. With nine catches for 229 yards and three TD -- most in the first half, before Texans coach Gary Kubiak was rushed to the hospital after he collapsed -- the Texans were in complete control. But T.Y. Hilton, the Colts new no. 1 reciever -- after Reggie Wayne's season-ending injury -- turned in a special performance as well, with seven catches for 121 yards and three scores, most of which came in the second half to lead the Colts to a 27-24 win.

Chiefs Got Keep on Movin': Kansas City's offense put up goose eggs aside from three Ryan Succop FGs, but Sean Smith's interception led to a TD and Tambi Hali returned a fumble in for a score to pull the Chiefs past the Bills 23-13, who continue to falter with injuries at the QB position.

Nick Foles' Seven-TD Performance Highlights Eagles Win:
Foles' seven-TD performance (the same amount of passing TDs the Raiders have all season) in Sunday's 49-20 win over the Raiders may have been the best one this season. The fact that he found five different receivers with those TD passes has to make the Eagles seriously consider the possibility that he is their QB of the future.

Redskins Continue to Fight: FB Darrell Young only has seven carries this season for the Redskins this season, but three of them ended in the end zone this week against the Chargers in a 30-24 OT win. Now 3-5, Washington's playoff hopes are still alive at the mid-season mark.

Cameron Wake's Deuce Leads to Fins Win: With 6:38 left in OT, Cameron Wake sacked Bengals QB Andy Dalton in the end zone to give the Dolphins a dramatic 22-20 win. After Dalton decimated the Jets offense last week in a 49-point rout, Miami kept the Bengals QB off the score sheet in spite of 53 pass attempts.

Bucs Best Not Enough Against Seahawks: Seventeen second half points helped Seattle erase a 21-point deficit in an impressive 27-24 OT win to keep the lowly Bucs without a win this season. Regardless of the loss, the Bucs offense was solid. Matt Glennon went 17/23 with two TDs, while Mike James added 158 yards on the ground.
