The Philadelphia Eagles have spent much of the past week locking up their veterans with substantial new deals, and Friday was no exception.
The team announced a new five-year extension for right tackle Lane Johnson on Friday, worth $65 million overall and $35.5 million guaranteed, which will keep the University of Oklahoma product—who was the fourth overall pick in the 2013 Draft—in Philadelphia through the 2021 season.
"I want to be here the rest of my career," Johnson said, per Phil Sheridan of ESPN. "A lot of the guys in the locker room are like my brothers. It's where I want to be."
Johnson has started 44 games in his three seasons with the team, 42 at right tackle and two at left tackle, where he replaced Jason Peters for a couple of contests in 2015. It’s generally assumed that he will move to the left side full time once Peters retires.
"I think that's what they drafted me for," Johnson said. "Jason Peters is probably the best tackle of all time—one of them. He's taught me so much. I'm just going to continue to do that until that time comes."
