NBA GMs Like Mavs' Off-Season Moves, But Not Title Chances

The Mavs’ busy off-season hasn’t gone unnoticed.

In the NBA’s annual 56-question pre-season survey, general managers both noticed and praised the Mavs’ acquisitions of Tyson Chandler, Chandler Parsons and even Jameer Nelson.

While most of the survey revolved around LeBron James’ return to Cleveland – GMs picked him to win MVP and his Cavaliers to play in the Finals against the Spurs – the Mavs got their due respect.

Dirk Nowitzki was voted as the league’s best international player and received votes as the best power forward.

Chandler was voted as the most underrated acquisition of the summer. Parsons’ jump from Houston to Dallas was voted as the second-most surprising move (behind James to Cleveland) and Nelson also received votes as an underrated acquisition. Chandler also received votes for best defensive player in the league.

Head coach Rick Carlisle was voted No. 2 (behind the Spurs’ Gregg Popovich) for best in-game adjustments and for best offense.

GMs, however, didn’t shower the Mavs’ chances with much love. Dallas didn’t receive a single vote to win the championship, the West or even the Southwest Division.
