Must-See Sports Moments of the Week: July 10-16

Must-see moments from this week in sports include an agonizing missed putt, a series of even more painful missed putts and a brilliant commercial poking fun at Peyton Manning.

Friday

For the Record...

That's how close Phil Mickelson came to shooting 62 at The Open Championship Thursday, which would have been the lowest round ever recorded at a major. “I feel like crying,” he said. “It’s heartbreaking.”

Mickelson's caddie wasn't thrilled either.

5-Putting the 7th

Mickelson's miss was bad in a good way. Paul Casey's FOUR misses on the 7th green at The Open are bad in a very bad way. The first one is OK, but the rest are hard to watch.

Poking Fun at Peyton

Remember the Gatorade commercial about the letters Peyton Manning wrote? A spoof of that commercia aired during the ESPYs Wednesday, featuring fake letters from Peyton read by Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers and others.

Former Dolphin Ricky Williams Hugs Dolphin

Former NFL running back Ricky Williams might not have embraced his time with the Dolphins, but he recently spent time embracing an actual Dolphin.

Thursday

Running Cyclist

What do you do if you crash your bicycle into a cameraman's motorcycle during the Tour de France? Apparently you just start running if you're Chris Froome.

Shaq's Dunking Lesson

Shareef O’Neal learns to "dunk through contact" from his dad, Shaq, who might be the best possible teacher for that. Shaq's highly-recruited 6-foot-9 son is heading into his junior year of high school.

Sweet 16, Elite 8 games will mean big bucks for Dallas

West-leading Stars wrap up playoff spot, beating Canucks Thursday for 6th straight victory

If being a Pro Bowl long snapper doesn't work out for the Eagles' Jon Dorenbos, he might have a career in magic. Dorenbos advanced on America's Got Talent and impressed guest judge Ne-Yo enough to hit the "golden buzzer" whatever that means...

Vault: Gator-on-Gator Crime

All four major sports were off Wednesday, so we'll dip into the vault for a fun must-see moment in a 2013 football game between Florida and Georgia Southern. Two Gators blocked each other on this play. There's not much more to say except that Florida ended up losing to the FCS school...obviously.

Wednesday

National Anthem Tweak

One of the members of Canadian quartet The Tenors altered the lyrics to “O Canada” to include the phrase "All Lives Matter" before the start of the MLB All-Star Game. The group later stated that the rogue member had been suspended from the group.

Big Papi's Last All-Star Game

After walking against Marlins' pitcher Jose Fernandez in the third inning, Red Sox slugger David Ortiz exits his final All-Star game to a standing ovation from fans and players.

Just before he was pulled, Ortiz tells Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo how Fernandez renegged on a promise to throw Ortiz nothing but fastballs.

Forgetting Spellcheck

Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard is probably no stranger to having his name misspelled. Still... Double-check that graphic, MLB.

Tuesday

Back, Back, Back...

Miami Marlin Giancarlo Stanton hit 61 homers to win the Home Run Derby at Petco Park Monday. Stanton also hit the competition's longest home run, twice launching a ball 497 feet.

Eyes On The Ball

Not everyone had as good a day as Stanton. For example, one of the ball-shagging kids in the outfield during the contest didn't call for the ball and suffered the consequences.

Sibling Rivarly

Somewhere between the previous two moments lies Padres first baseman Wil Myers, whose brother Beau couldn't resist the opportunity to plunk his big brother during the contest.

Foreshadowing?

Spiritual fans of the Carolina Panthers can interpret a series of lightning strikes over Bank of America Stadium Monday evening however they want.

Monday

Shut Up, Mom

As if being pummeled by Andrew Sanchez during UFC 23 weren't bad enough for Khalil Rountree, he also had to take his focus off the beating to tell his mother to stop bothering him while he's working.

Cyclist Punches Fan

A man wearing a wig and a Colombia soccer jersey ran beside cyclist Chris Froome during Tour de France Saturday. So what else was Froome supposed to do beside punching the man?

Posey's Accurate Throw

Giants pitcher Jake Peavy was too busy appealing a pitch call to notice Buster Posey's amazing return throw Saturday. It didn't matter, though, as Posey bounced it off Peavy and into his glove.

Camper beats NBA Star

A basketball camper named Kyle nailed a shot near half court to beat Russell Westbrook Saturday. After standing in disbelief, Westbrook gave the seventh grader his due.

Cubs Prospect Shines

Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Eloy Jimenez flashes the leather during the MLB futures game Sunday. Oh yeah, he also hit a home run into the third deck of Petco Park in San Diego.

Foul Ball Splatter

Bad things happen when you try to catch a foul ball with a tray of food. That's why the pros use gloves.
