Murray Not Worried About Carry Totals

The Cowboys 6-1 on the year when DeMarco Murray gets 20-plus carries

DeMarco Murray has never been one to get caught up in stats.

But as Jon Machota points out today in the Dallas Morning News, there’s some strong statistical evidence that the Dallas Cowboys need to keep feeding Murray the ball. They have only lost one game ever when DeMarco Murray carries the ball 20 times or more, and that came in Week 1 of this year against the 49ers.

Murray has been told about that stat, but he insists he doesn’t need a massive amount of carries for the Cowboys to win.

I’ve heard about it a few times,” Murray said. “I don’t know the truth behind it or the meaning behind it, but I think we win when we play well and everyone’s doing their job.”

Head coach Jason Garrett, for his part, says the Cowboys fully intend to feed Murray going forward.

“DeMarco’s our bell cow,” Garrett said. “He’s our workhorse. He’s going to get the football. We’re going to run the ball and he’s going to be the guy getting it more than anybody else.”
