Rangers outfielder David Murphy has a mild left groin strain and is day to day.

An MRI showed no tear for Murphy, a key contributor for the AL West champions.

Murphy left Wednesday's 6-5 victory over Seattle after reaching base on an error in the second inning. The MRI was done after the game and the results were revealed Thursday.

Murphy is hitting .291 with 12 homers and 65 RBIs in 138 games.

Murphy hit .357 (35 of 98) over his last 24 games, raising his season average 20 points during a stretch Texas has been without Josh Hamilton, the leading hitter in the majors.

Hamilton, hurt Sept. 4 when he crashed into an outfield wall making a catch, expects to return to the lineup this weekend.
