Multi-Millionaire Beckham Fined $1,000 By MLS

A $1,000 fine for a guy that made $95 million the last few years will really teach him a lesson.

David Beckham said he wasn’t sorry for pointing out and calling out members of the LA Galaxy Riot Squad fans after they let him have it during a recent match with AC Milan. He blamed the fans for the problem.

So the MLS is going to make him sorry by fining him... $1,000. Are you kidding me?

In the time it took you to read that sentence, Beckham earned more than $1,000 in interest on money he already has in the bank.

It all started last week when the Galaxy, with Beckham, hosting a friendly with AC Milan, the Italian squad that Beckham forced his way out of Los Angeles to play for (then had to be brought back basically kicking and screaming). American sports fans will put up with a lot from their stars, but disloyalty is not one of them.

At the game Beckham was greeted with plenty of boos, as well as signs calling him a fraud. One particular section, the LA Riot Squad, was particularly brutal. As the team left the pitch for halftime, Beckham walked over to the Riot Squad section and pointed at them and started to call them out. One guy from the stands jumped down to the pitch, and was promptly arrested for coming on the field.

The MLS doesn’t like its players alienating the few fans it has, so it is going to fine Beckham $1,000. Forbes estimated that Beckham earned about $95 million in salary and endorsements in 2007 and 2008 combined (about two-thirds of that through endorsements).

So a $1,000 fine should really teach him a lesson.

After the game Beckham pulled out the child card — I don’t want my kid to hear those things — but said that the boos and the calls of the fans didn’t impact him one bit.

Just about the same impact he has had on soccer in America, then.
