Mourners Recall 1999 Texas A&M Bonfire Accident

Mourners have lit candles and left flowers at the Texas A&M Bonfire Memorial to honor those killed and injured 15 years ago in the log pile collapse.

Hundreds of people were present at 2:42 a.m. CST Tuesday in College Station to remember the 12 Aggies who died and the 27 hurt.

Students and others were building a 60-foot tower with thousands of logs when the pile fell at 2:42 a.m. on Nov. 18, 1999, on the eve of the Texas football game.

KBTX-TV reports current and former students, relatives of victims and Aggie yell leaders were part of Tuesday's ceremony that included singing "Amazing Grace."

The Eagle newspaper reports a lone member of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets remained at the site until the last mourners left.
