Moreland On a Tear at the Plate

In his past six games, Mitch Moreland has shown he's ready to pick up right where he left off when he was put on the disabled list last month when he needed a minor surgical procedure to remove "loose bodies" in his left elbow.

At that point, Moreland was the Rangers' second-best hitter behind Prince Fielder and only one of two on the team who was hitting better than .300 on the season.

Since his return, he's been back up to his old tricks and on Thursday night drove in two runs in the Rangers' 3-1 win over Boston. One of those runs came on a solo home run to the opposite field that cleared the famed Green Monster at Fenway Park.

Now in his last six games, Moreland is batting .333 with two doubles and two home runs to go with a team-high five RBIs in that time. For the season, Moreland has his average back above .300 at .312 with a .382 on-base percentage, and again he's one of two regulars (along with Fielder) who are batting better than .300 on the season. He also has three homers and 14 RBIs in just 24 games.

Moreland knew coming into this year that it was a big season for him to prove he belonged in the Rangers' future plans, and as of now, his $2.95 million salary this year seems like a bargain.
