Michael Sam Confident He'll Play “Somewhere” in 2015

Sam participated in the inaugural veteran combine over the weekend

Former Dallas Cowboys practice squad member Michael Sam didn’t set the world on fire with his performance at the NFL’s inaugural veteran combine over the weekend, but he remains confident in his football future.

"I am very confident that I will be playing football this year somewhere," Sam said, per Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com. "So we'll leave that at that."

Last year Sam was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the seventh round out of Missouri and, in doing so, became the first openly gay player in history to be selected in the NFL draft. He was among the team’s final cuts, but was signed to the Cowboys’ practice squad not long after. He was released by Dallas in October.

Now, Sam is looking for another opportunity wherever he can get it.

"I'll play for whoever," Sam said. "If the Rams or Cowboys want me back, I will go there [on the] first flight out."
