Media Picks Mean Green as Favorites in Conference USA

The Mean Green received 20 of 26 first-place votes in the Conference USA media poll

Conference USA held its football media day Wednesday at the Baylor Scott & White Medical Center at The Star in Frisco, and the conference has high expectations for the North Texas Mean Green.

Coming off a nine-win season, North Texas will not sneak up on anybody in Conference USA in 2019. The media picked UNT to win the conference's west division and the Mean Green received 20 of the 26 first-place votes in the poll.

"After the last few years, we've had some success, so we're not going to sneak up on anybody," North Texas football coach Seth Littrell said. "It's a great challenge for us, but we're excited for this upcoming year."

One of the reasons Littrell is so excited about the season ahead -- he has back-to-back Conference USA offensive player of the year Mason Fine back at quarterback. The Mean Green's all-time leading passer was been selected as the conference's preseason offensive player of the year in 2019.

"This is my last chance so I've got to make it right," Fine said. "There's a little more pressure you add on yourself, but the biggest thing I do is take a deep breath and soak it all in. I never know what could be my last play, so I don't take anything for granted and I'm enjoying every little second of the day."

Fine and the Mean Green will open the 2019 season at home when they host Abilene Christian in Denton August 31.
