McShay's Second Mock: Cowboys Take Melvin Gordon

ESPN's Todd McShay has Dallas targeting a running back in the first round in his second mock draft of the year

ESPN draft guru Todd McShay has released his second mock draft of the year, and in this one, he has the Dallas Cowboys going with a running back in the first round.

Not just any running back, either, but Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon.

Obviously, as Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas points out, this pick only makes sense if the Cowboys are unable to come to an agreement with the NFL’s reigning rushing champion, DeMarco Murray.

A unanimous All-American and the Doak Walker Award winner, Gordon finished 2014 with 2,587 yards, the second most in FBS history behind the 2,628 yards Barry Sanders posted as a member of the Oklahoma State Cowboys in 1988.

“Gordon's running style is very similar to Murray's; he runs hard, is a work horse, gets from 0 to 60 in a flash and shows great vision and patience as a runner,” McShay writes. “He isn't great in pass protection or as a receiver, but he's getting better.”
