Mavs Meeting With Veteran Guard Mo Williams

As I’ve said before, Raymond Felton is a liability at this point. He certainly isn’t any sort of answer at point guard for the Mavs.

It appears Dallas agrees.

Yahoo! Sports reported yesterday that the Mavs are meeting today with veteran free-agent guard Mo Williams, an indication that they are not set or satisfied with Felton in their guard rotation. Newly re-signed Devin Harris will get a bulk of the minutes at point guard and Monta Ellis is set at shooting guard. But with Jose Calderon and Shane Larkin shipped to the Knicks in the trade for Tyson Chandler, the Mavs are in the market for point-guard help.

Williams can play both positions.

Certainly the team’s free-agent focus remains signing a small forward, but Williams would bring veteran savvy and stability to the backcourt. Williams, 31, averaged 9.7 points and 4.3 assists as Portland’s Sixth Man last season.

Felton’s biggest asset, however, is that the Mavs could trade him and his $3.79 million salary to create even more salary cap space.
