Mavs, Again, Sniffing Around 7-Footer Greg Oden

An intriguing name will be a part of the Mavs’ minicamp this week: Greg Oden.

The 7-foot, former No. 1-overall draft pick is attempting yet another comeback in the NBA and the Mavs remain intrigued by his size, skill and potential. They have a couple picks in Thursday's draft and money to play with in free agency.

But they also have several roster holes. Let the searching begin.

Oden was the top pick in 2007, as the Blazers selected him over Kevin Durant. But his disappointing career has been constantly plagued by injuries, limiting him to 105 total games.

He hasn’t played since a brief stint with the Heat in 2014. The Mavs tried to sign him then, but he chose Miami instead.

With uncertainty up and down the roster – including center – the Mavs are smart to look under every rock this summer.

A native Texan who was born in Duncanville and graduated from UT-Arlington, Richie Whitt has been a mainstay in the Metroplex media since 1986. He’s held prominent roles on all media platforms including newspaper (Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Dallas Observer), radio (105.3 The Fan) and TV (co-host on TXA 21 and numerous guest appearances, including NBC 5). He lives in McKinney with his wife, Sybil, and two very spoiled dogs.
