Jet Owns Up to Ink

Terry’s NBA trophy tattoo to stay with title, go with loss

Jason Terry carries a certain degree of bravado with him.

It’s there on this right arm, a tattoo rendering of the NBA championship trophy inked before the season began. Now, according to a Dallas Morning News piece, he’s ready to back it up or take it off.

If the Mavs beat the Heat, Terry will have the championship date inscribed on the trophy tat. If Dallas [ahem] comes in second the tattoo comes off, which Terry acknowledged will hurt way more than a tattoo inking.

“I definitely know it’s going to hurt worse if I have to take this thing off,” he’s quoted as saying.

And that, right there, would be newsworthy in a league drowning in ink. “Dateline: Dallas — NBA Player Removes Tattoo.”

Let’s hope the Mavericks make news for a completely opposite reason.

Terry’s also quoted in the piece talking about how very superstitious he is. If that’s the case, he’s really pushing the fates, and there’s that bravado thing again.

Get a tattoo of the championship hardware, by all means, but go the Mike Keane route and do so after you raise the Stanley Cup, sorry, Larry O’Brien Trophy.
