JD: Profar Nearly 100 Percent

Last season, Jurickson Profar was supposed to be the Texas Rangers' starting second baseman from the word "go" after they traded Ian Kinsler to Detroit for Prince Fielder, which happened a year ago Thursday, coincidentally.

Instead, Profar spent the entire season on the shelf after tearing a muscle in his shoulder, going on a rehab assignment and then reaggravating the injury and missing the rest of the year. Instead of learning on the fly and being thrown into the fire for better or worse, Profar lost a hugely important season in his development process while watching 20-year-old Rougned Odor seize the starting second base job early in the year.

In a radio interview on 105.3 The Fan, Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said Profar is about 95 percent healthy, but added one important caveat — he's seen him there before and then watched him have a setback and go back to Square One.

The hope is that Profar will be ready to roll at 100 percent before spring training is set to begin in February, but as we've seen before, nothing is a given when it comes to Jurickson Profar and health.
