As nauseating as it was to watch the Spurs win, man was it delicious to watch the Heat lose.
As the grim reality of another basketball season ending sets in, there are salves to make Mavs fans feel a tad better. First and foremost, in hindsight the Mavs played San Antonio tougher than any other team in the playoffs.
Much, much tougher.
Think about it. Against the Mavs the Spurs were 4-3. Against the rest of the league they went 12-7, getting pushed past a Game 5 by only the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals. The Mavs actually pushed the champs to an elimination game.
Obviously, there are no consolation prizes. And finishing 8th in the West is certainly no reason to throw a parade.
But as us basketball junkies wake up this morning wondering what to do, there are causes for comfort. LeBron James and Dwyane Wade feel like losers. And, against the champion Spurs, the Mavs were closer than any other team to being winners.
