Ian Desmond Signs With Rockies: Report

Ian Desmond, who played center field for the Texas Rangers in 2016, has signed with the Colorado Rockies, according to a report.

MLB's Ken Rosenthal was the first to report Desmond's free agent five-year deal reportedly worth nearly $70 million Wednesday morning.

Because Desmond rejected the Rangers' qualifying offer, they'll receive a pick in the 2017 MLB Draft's first compensatory round. The Rockies will also give up their first-round pick — No. 11 overall.

After spending his first seven seasons playing shortstop for the Washington Nationals, the 31-year-old Desmond signed a one-year deal to be the Rangers' center fielder.

Desmond appeared in 156 games for the Rangers in 2016, hitting .285/.335/.446 with 22 home runs and 21 stolen bases. He was also named to his second All-Star team.
