Hassan Whiteside Announces Return to Miami Heat on Snapchat

The Dallas Mavericks' free agency woes continue as center Hassan Whiteside announced his intention to re-sign with his former team, the Miami Heat, Friday morning.

The 27-year-old Whiteside made the announcement on Snapchat at about 6:30 a.m.

"I’ve played on eight teams since college — from Reno to Sioux Falls to Sichuan, China. I am not ready for there to be a ninth," he said at theplayerstribune.com. "I have decided to re-sign with Miami."

The 27-year-old Whiteside enjoyed a breakout 2015-16 season with the Heat, averaging 14.2 points 11.8 rebounds and a league-leading 3.7 blocks in just over 29 minutes per game.

The Mavericks were thought to be the favorite to land the 7-foot Whiteside heading into the opening of the NBA's free agency moratorium period Friday by many insiders.

After scheduled meetings with the Mavericks, Heat and Portland Trailblazers, Whiteside posted on Snapchat at about 3 a.m. that he would announce his decision Friday morning. Less than four hours later, he posted his decision.

Dallas can now add Whiteside's name to the list of free agents they've missed out on recently, including Deron Williams, Dwight Howard, Chris Paul and DeAndre Jordan. Jordan was the most infamous, re-signing with the Los Angeles Clippers after verbally agreeing to join the Mavericks.

Like the others, Whiteside was the centerpiece of the Mavericks' offseason plans, leaving the team, once again, looking for a contingency.
