Harrison Doing Well, Future Still in Doubt

At the GM meetings in Arizona this week, Texas Rangers GM Jon Daniels said he was happy with the progress starting pitcher Matt Harrison has made since undergoing a third back surgery early in the 2014 season. But the Rangers' GM stopped short of saying Harrison would be back on the mound again.

"It's been two years now," Daniels told ESPN Dallas in Arizona. "It's easy to forget he was one of the more durable starters in the American League. … That's why we signed him to that extension."

There's no question Harrison was just that prior to his first round of injuries that hit at the beginning of the 2013 season. In 2012, Harrison threw 213 1/3 innings and had a 3.29 ERA. Since the beginning of that 2013 season, after Harrison was given a five-year extension, he's made six starts — two in 2013 and four in 2014 before he encountered more back problems and underwent the knife again.

If anyone can come back from this, you'd think it'd be Harrison. But you have to realize, a starting pitching who's had three back surgeries in a short time, has just about every odd fathomable stacked against him.
