HP Byron Nelson Championship Preparations

Phil Mickelson expected to play this year, along with other former champions

Big names in golf are coming to North Texas in just a few weeks.

Preparations are under way for the HP Byron Nelson Championship at the Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas in Las Colinas.

Paul Earnest, Four Seasons Resort and Club director of golf, said finishing touches are being made on the course.

"We're well-positioned," he said. We'll be taking some of the leaf blade out, just the finer details now left to go in the last two weeks."

About 250,000 people are expected to be at the course throughout the week, including big names to help celebrate what would have been Byron Nelson's 100th birthday.

Mike McKinley, tournament chairman-elect, said past champions such as Phil Mickelson, Vijay Singh, Ernie Els and Keegan Bradley are expected.

He also said the tournament has an official sellout of its corporate hospitality for the first time since 2008.

The tournament even has a high-tech way to stay connected. A smartphone app with information on all the players as well as an interactive map to help visitors get around is new this year.

"There is a younger audience for golf, and we're just reaching out to those younger folks who have been supporting our tournament," McKinley said.

The Byron Nelson will be played May 14-20. The tournament will be in its 30th at the Las Colinas location and has a contract with the resort through 2018.
