Guyer Beats Brennan, Repeats in 4A Division I

Quarterback Jerrod Heard accounted for 254 yards and three touchdowns and Denton Guyer repeated as Class 4A Division I champion with a 31-14 victory against San Antonio Brennan on Friday night.

Guyer (14-2) solved a Brennan defense that had allowed only five touchdowns all season. Brennan (15-1) hadn't trailed at all this year but never led in this game.

Heard rushed 22 times for 159 yards and touchdowns of 4 and 28 yards. He completed all nine of his passes for 95 yards, including a 14-yard touchdown to David Haynes.

Quarterback Da'Shawn Kay rushed 17 times for 127 yards and both Brennan touchdowns, from 11 and 37 yards, and passed for 123 yards.

Brennan hurt itself with turnovers and penalties that led to 10 Guyer points and negated a 23-yard run by Key that would have put the ball on Guyer's 2 late in the third quarter. The drive ended with a missed field goal.
