Gus Johnson Not Stressing Over Final Cuts

Johnson went for 68 yards and a touchdown in the preseason finale on Thursday

Having stated his case for a practice squad spot, at least, on Thursday night, undrafted free agent running back Gus Johnson is trying not to worry about the imminent final cuts.

“Of course I’ll probably wake up tomorrow and it’ll probably be on my mind but you can’t worry about it,” Johnson said, per the Dallas Morning News. “That’s something you don’t have a lot of control over. They’re going to make a decision however they want to so just let it all play out and whatever happens, go with it.”

Johnson did give the Dallas staff plenty to think about in the 21-14 win over the Texans in the preseason finale. He ran for 68 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries, and the touchdown was a highlight, a 21-yard dash up the sideline to give the Cowboys a 14-7 lead in the third quarter.

The deadline for teams to trim their rosters from 75 to 53 is set for Saturday at 3 PM.

“It’s the worst part of our job,” head coach Jason Garrett said. “What we have to do is do what’s in the best interest of the Dallas Cowboys. We’ll have some hard decisions to make.”
