Guggenberger Named Finalist for 2 CHL Awards

Special events planned for this weekend's games

The Central Hockey League announced Wednesday the finalists for the year-end awards, and Brahmas goaltender Mark Guggenberger has been nominated for 2011-2012 Most Outstanding Goaltender (Scott Brower Award) and Rookie of the Year.

In his first year playing professional hockey, the Richfield, Minn., native has had a season filled with accolades.

In January, Guggenberger was selected to the 2012 CHL All-Star Game in Arizona, at which he made 35 saves on 36 shots en route to the victory. Just last week, the rookie netminder was named the Sher-Wood Goaltender of the Month and the 50/50 Central Rookie of the Month for February.

Guggenberger also broke a Brahmas’ franchise record by recording three straight shutouts and set a CHL mark by stringing together 238:31 consecutive scoreless minutes.

Pink in the Rink

The Brahmas face-off against the Missouri Mavericks on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the NYTEX Sports Centre for Pink in the Rink. The team will wear limited edition sweaters in honor of breast cancer awareness, and the jerseys will be auctioned off after the game. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

On Saturday, the Brahmas are back in action at the NTYEX Sports Centre against the Laredo Bucks at 7:30 p.m. Allison Balson from Allison and Stone, who is best known for her role as Nancy Olson on Little House on the Prairie, will be in attendance to sing the national anthem.
