Glimpse of ‘Vintage McFadden' Has Jerry Jones Excited

Darren McFadden went for 37 yards on four carries against the Vikings on Saturday

On Saturday night, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones saw a flash of the running back he thought Darren McFadden could still be when the Cowboys signed him as a free agent back in March.

It was only a flash--McFadden only had four carries in the game--but that was enough for the longtime Oakland Raider to stack up a game-high 37 yards against the Vikings, and for Jones to allow himself a little excitement.

I think that what you saw was vintage McFadden,” Jones said, per Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News. “You saw that acceleration. You saw his abilities. He’s a seasoned veteran running back who can take what’s given to him.

“And yeah, I’d like to say that’s what you’d expect from him, but he’s very capable of using the offense that we’ve got, the weapons we’ve got, the blockers we’ve got and getting the most advantage out of it.”

Jones left AT&T Stadium feeling good not only about McFadden, but about the Cowboys’ backfield as a whole. Joseph Randle, who got the start, added 15 yards on six carries.

“If they’re healthy, I’ll take the skill and what they can bring to our offense,” Jones said, “I’ll take that and go to the [Week 1] game against the Giants and won’t ask for any more.”
