Garrett: Cowboys Don't View Hardy Signing as a Risk

Greg Hardy is facing a suspension pending a league review of his case

Despite the fact that Greg Hardy is facing a possible suspension, pending the findings of a league review of his case, Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said this week that the team doesn’t see the signing of the controversial defensive end as a risk.

The Cowboys made sure to structure the contract so Hardy will essentially be paid only for games he’s on the active 53-man roster, which is important considering most analysts anticipate that the 2013 Pro Bowler will be suspended at least four games. Also, Garrett points out, if Hardy runs into more trouble off the field, the team can always just cut ties and walk away.

"I don't think there's any connection there and to be honest with you, we don't view player acquisition as risks," Garrett said, per ESPN Dallas. "We don't view this as a risk. We did our due diligence. We did our research on Greg Hardy. We evaluated him as a player, brought him in here, structured a contract in such a way that we think he can help our football team.

“If we don't think he's going to do that we can move on from him. That was a very important part of this contract, the structure of the contract.”
