Felton Already Vanishing From Mavericks' Mix

In a scenario we all braced for from a months away, the Raymond Felton era is off to a stumbling start.

The Mavericks claim they coveted the guard in the Tyson Chandler trade last summer, but we know better. The Knicks no longer wanted him, and made Dallas take him in order to do the deal.

Felton can’t shoot. Can’t defend. We all know about his off-court problems. And now he’s not healthy.

Already clearly buried behind guards Jameer Nelson and Devin Harris, Felton is now nursing a sprained ankle that will further derail the start to his Mavs’ career. Felton injured his right ankle when he stepped on Anthony Morrow’s foot during last Friday’s exhibition loss to the Thunder.

He’s out at least 10 days, meaning he will likely miss the remainder of the Mavs’ preseason. Add that to the fact that he will sit out the first four games of the regular season due to the suspension from a gun charge in New York last season, and it’s easy to see that Felton won’t be in the mix as the Mavs begin the season.

But some of us were never counting on him anyway.

A native Texan who was born in Duncanville and graduated from UT-Arlington, Richie Whitt has been a mainstay in the Metroplex media since 1986. He’s held prominent roles on all media platforms including newspaper (Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Dallas Observer), radio (105.3 The Fan) and TV (co-host on TXA 21 and numerous guest appearances, including NBC 5). He currently lives in McKinney with his wife, Sybil, and two very spoiled dogs.
