Fans Flock to Sold Out FCS Game

Standing room only tickets sold out almost immediately

No matter what happens on the field, the FCS National Championship Game between North Dakota State and Sam Houston State Universities at Frisco’s Pizza Hut Park will be a memorable one.

“The fact that it became a sell out over a weekend is just incredible for us,” said Frisco Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Marla Roe.

For the 2011 title game, about 13,000 fans came to Frisco.

However, because of this year’s demand, the stadium chose to add standing room only tickets in addition to its 20,500 person capacity.

Those extra spots sold out nearly immediately earlier this week.

While Frisco did expect better attendance because a Texas team is in contention for the title, the NDSU Bison fan base has proved to be equally, if not more, willing to travel.

“We found out that pretty much the whole state of North Dakota travels when their team wins,” said Roe.

Scott Woken of Fargo, ND works for NDSU and made the trip to Frisco. He says people should not be surprised that the Bison faithful will make the long trip.

“We know for a fact there are people coming down here that don’t have a ticket,” Woken said. “They just want to be part of the environment.”
