Fans Flock to Frisco for FCS Championship

More than 20,000 football fans are in town for Saturday's FCS National Championship.

North Dakota State will play Jacksonville State for the division one title.

This is the fifth year in a row NDSU has been in the championship. The team has taken home the title four years in a row.

Making the trip to Frisco has become an annual tradition for Jan Betts, an NDSU aluma.

"This is our fifth year for being here," she said. "It's gotten to the point where it's getting to be a reunion every year."

There are North Dakota State signs and flags all along Main Street in Frisco. There are even drink specials specifically for Bison fans.

Jacksonville State Fans told NBC 5 it doesn't bother them one bit, but a tweet from the city-managed Twitter handle, @visitplano, does.

"I was kind of put off by the Visit Plano tweet they put out. Somebody caught it obviously and it's blown up," JSU fan Jason Sumner said.

The tweet posted Monday reads, "All week our feed is dedicated to the North Dakota Bison." It has since been deleted but not before JSU fans saw it.

Many took offense to the tweet. One JSU fan replied, "Guess I will not visit Plano."

The game may be played in Frisco, but nearby Plano shares in the annual windfall and North Dakota State's repeat business.

"I don't think we're biased," Frisco Mayor Maher Maso said. "I think we're used to them. The first year they came, this is the 5th year, nobody knew what to expect, they come in mass. They're very organized."

Plano has responded to JSU fans via Twitter saying they "Definitely deserve the flag for excessive celebration."

"We take our 15-yard penalty but are ready to welcome BOTH teams for a great game on Saturday! #FCSChamp" another tweet said.
