Excitement Surrounds Adrian Beltre's Chase for 3,000-Hit Milestone

The Rangers third baseman is seven hits shy of reaching 3,000 career hits

2,993.

That’s the number of career hits Adrian Beltre currently has. If my math is correct, he’s seven hits shy of joining the 3,000 hit club. That’s virtually a lock to get into the Hall of Fame. History may happen sooner than later.

“It’s incredible to watch,” said manager Jeff Banister. “I think it gives us some energy, just the ability to be a part of it. For him, I can only imagine the thoughts that are going through his mind.”

The Rangers third baseman and probably heart and soul of the team had four hits in Monday’s loss at home to the Miami Marlins. It was his 36th career four-hit game. He just gets better with age with the big moment just around the corner.

“It’s amazing,” said shortstop Elvis Andrus. “I can’t wait. I think I’m way more excited than he is. I think he is doing a really good job under control. “

Beltre won’t talk much about the lead-up to the milestone. He’s never really been one to talk about himself or his play. It’s all about the team for Beltre, which is why he would like to get this moment over with so the focus will be on the current happenings in the wild card race.

“He is a consummate team guy and he’s looking to win baseball games,” said Banister. “That’s number one on his list.”

However, his teammates have no problem talking about the road to 3,000.

“I feel more pressure than him,” said centerfielder Carlos Gomez with a huge smile. “I can’t wait until he gets to 3,000. I don’t know how we are going to react.”

“As a team, we are counting all the hits,” added Andrus. “He will never do that. That’s just the way he is. Believe me, everyone is excited, everybody is ready to see that and to experience that.”

The Rangers have eight games remaining on the current homestand, so the faithful in Arlington may get to see that magic moment on the home turf. At the rate that Beltre is going, that could be this weekend with the Baltimore Orioles in town.
