Ex-Cowboy DeMarcus Ware Says He Has “Many Years Left”

DeMarcus Ware was impressive enough in his first season with the Denver Broncos last year that, in December, Jerry Jones openly lamented the fact that he was no longer in Dallas and wondered aloud how good the Cowboys might be if Ware was still in blue and silver.

Ware had been released after declining to take a pay cut the offseason before. Jones flirted with the idea of bringing the franchise’s all-time sack leader with a new deal, but he never got the chance. The day after his release, Ware signed a three-year, $30 million with the Broncos, and went on to record 10 sacks and earn an eighth career trip to the Pro Bowl.

What’s more, Ware doesn’t plan on slowing down any time soon.

"No. Not at all," Ware told the Denver Post recently. "I've got many years left."

Ware will be helped by a couple of factors in 2015. First, the Broncos will move from defensive end in John Fox’s 4-3 defense to outside linebacker Wade Phillips’ 3-4--the position and system in which Ware led the NFL in sacks twice. Also, this year, Ware will have the benefit of a full, healthy offseason for the first time in three years.

"Yes, I was able to get through last season, but I wasn't able to do everything like this offseason," Ware said. "This year, I feel like I'm solid. I can build the bulk. Now after you have those six games and you have all those plays, you know you're ready for six more, and then six more. Because you're just that much more in shape.”
