Detwiler Still Searching for First Win

Ross Detwiler has had a rough go as a Texas Rangers starter so far, and for the most part, he's shown why the Washington Nationals wanted to leave him in the bullpen.

Other than one really good start in that sweep of the Houston Astros, when he went toe-to-toe with Dallas Keuchel and got a no-decision, Detwiler has been painfully bad.

The well-known groundball pitcher has had trouble inducing them for the most part, and he's just leaving too much stuff up and letting hitters take advantage.

Thursday afternoon he'll take the hill again, still searching for that first win, and to get it he'll have to beat a team he's never faced before in the defending AL champion Kansas City Royals.

"They don't try to get too big," Detwiler told MLB.com of the Royals. "They try to get timely hitting, get guys in scoring position, move them over. I have to try to combat that and get the leadoff hitter out in every inning, put some pressure on them a little more."

Detwiler is sporting a lofty 7.22 ERA with his unsightly 0-4 record, and at this point it's hard to imagine him keeping a spot in the rotation when Derek Holland or Martin Perez comes back this summer, whoever comes first. It'd be big for his confidence to get in the win column on Thursday afternoon.
