UPPER MARLBORO, Md. -- NBA player Delonte West, of Brandywine, was indicted on weapons charges Tuesday.

West, 26, was charged with two counts of carrying a dangerous weapon, two counts of carrying a handgun, two counts of transporting a handgun, one count of reckless driving and one count of negligent driving, Prince George's County State's Attorney Glenn Ivey announced Tuesday.

The Cleveland Cavaliers guard was pulled over on a three-wheel motorcycle on the Outer Loop of the Beltway near Central Avenue in September in possession of two handguns and a shotgun, according to Prince George's County police.

He was stopped for speeding and cutting off a police officer in a marked police cruiser, police said. When an officer approached him, West told the officer he had a gun in his waistband, and the officer asked backup.

Police found another gun on West's ankle and a shotgun in a guitar case slung over his back.

The guns -- a Beretta 9 mm, a Ruger .357 Magnum and a Remington 870 shotgun -- were fully loaded. Police also found him in possession of an 8-and-a-half inch Bowie knife and 112 shotgun shells.

Each weapons charge carries a penalty of up to three years and a $2,500 fine.

West led Greenbelt's Eleanor Roosevelt High School to the Maryland 4A championship game during his senior year. He was named The Washington Post's All-Met Basketball Player of the Year.

At St. Joseph's University in 2003-04, West's junior year, the Hawks stormed through an undefeated regular season then lost once in the Atlantic 10 conference tournament and again in the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament to finish the season 30-2. He entered the draft following that season and has averaged 10.2 points and 3.8 assists per game in a five-year NBA career.

West played in his first game of the season Saturday, scoring 13 points in 24 minutes off the bench in a 90-79 defeat of Charlotte.
