There's no doubt that when Corey Borner was the victim of a freak accident a spring football practice back in May that his teammates would do all they could to pick him up.

Borner was paralyzed at practice and became a rallying figure for not only the DeSoto football team, but also the community.

Now, with the season just around the corner, the Eagles are a favorite to win the District 11-5A title in what should be a two-horse race between the Eagles and the Tyler Lee Red Raiders.

The Eagles are loaded with experienced talent as they return 16 starters from last year's squad that tied with Tyler Lee for the district championship a year ago -- eight starters coming back on each side of the ball.

The DeSoto offense will go as far as running back Marcus Murphy will take it. The speedy back rushed for more than 1,200 yards and 17 touchdowns while catching 40 balls for an additional 543 yards and seven scores. And when Murphy isn't toting the rock, the Eagles have plenty of other offensive weapons to go with him, namely Darius Terrell, a 6 foot 2, 205-pound big, strong receiver who runs a 4.5 40-yard dash. He'll be off to Texas after this season, and when you see him play, you'll see why.

The Eagles also have one of the more intriguing stories in offensive lineman Evan Washington, who's committed to LSU despite the fact that last season was the first year he'd ever played organized football.

Offensive MVP: Marcus Murphy, RB, DeSoto
Defensive MVP: Ashton Dorsey, DT, Tyler John Tyler
Game of the Year: DeSoto at Tyler Lee, Week 7
