DeMarco Murray Finds Debate Over His 2014 Success “Comedic”

Murray broke Emmitt Smith's franchise record for rushing yards in a season in 2014

DeMarco Murray is amused by the idea that some people attribute all his success in 2014 to the Dallas Cowboys’ offensive line.

It’s not that Murray doesn’t appreciate just how good his line in Dallas was. He does. But as he’s quick to point out, NFL history is chock full of great running backs who had the benefit of a great offensive line--and the greatness of the latter doesn’t detract from the greatness of the former.

The idea that it does is laughable to the man who broke Emmitt Smith's franchise record for rushing yards in a season last year and then left, for a huge deal with the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason.

“I think Barry Sanders is the only one who didn't have a great O-line. Emmitt Smith, Terrell Davis, all these guys had great lines," Murray told USA Today. “It's a little comedic to me. Every successful running back usually has a couple good offensive linemen. Those guys (in Dallas) were great, I've got a lot of respect for those guys. This group here, they've got some Pro Bowlers and great players.”
