Darvish: I Didn't Quit

Get excited, folks! Yu Darvish is speaking English!

And in doing so on Sunday, Darvish addressed the opinion from last year that the All-Star pitcher somehow quit on the Rangers by making his final start on Aug. 9, and then hitting the shelf for the remainder of the season with elbow inflammation.

At the time, Rangers general manager Jon Daniels and Darvish both said if the club wasn't on pace to lose 100 games and was in a playoff race, then Darvish could've possibly pitched. That riled up some folks, who made the claim Darvish was quitting for not pitching in bad times when he'd be able to pitch in good times.

That, of course, was crazy talk, and Darvish confirmed that on Sunday in his first English press conference since joining the Rangers in 2012.

“I never quit on the team,” Darvish told reporters. “I love this team. That is not true.”

Then, as The Dallas Morning News so eloquently pointed out, he punctuated the thought.

"That's bull...," he said, with an expletive tacked on.

You have to love it. Darvish has battled some minor ailments in his three seasons in Texas, but that was the first major one, or at least the first that forced him to miss significant time. Otherwise, he's proven to be the workhorse starter the Rangers thought they were getting when they signed him on the international market after a record posting fee.
