We won’t find out whether Tony Romo or Brandon Weeden will start for the Dallas Cowboys this week until an hour before they kick off against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, owner and general manager Jerry Jones said this week.
“Obviously you’ve got your 53-man roster, and we have to turn our actives in within an hour before the game,” Jones told 105.3-FM The Fan, via the Dallas Morning News, “and so that’s when you’ll know.”
Romo, of course, suffered what’s been called a back contusion in Monday night’s overtime loss to the Redskins. He was left crumpled on the turf at AT&T Stadium for several minutes before heading to the locker room. Weeden replaced him and went 4-6 passing while leading Dallas on two scoring drives before Romo returned.
Romo has been held out of practice all week.
“He’s moving around, and he’s doing a little stuff in the back there to get the stiffness out, kind of like a bicycle-type thing,” Jones said. “He’s moving around, been in the meetings today.”
