Cowboys Top Dolphins in Romo's Return, 24-14

The win snaps a historic seven-game losing streak

The Dallas Cowboys have snapped their seven-game skid, defeating the Dolphins 24-14 in Miami on Sunday afternoon, in Tony Romo’s return from a fractured collarbone.

The Cowboys got on the board in the second quarter when Rolando McClain intercepted Ryan Tannehill and returned it 12 yards for the touchdown. They’d extend that lead with about a minute remaining in the half with a 31 yard touchdown pass from Tony Romo to Terrance Williams. It was the team’s first offensive touchdown in seven quarters, and it extended the lead to 14-0.

In his return, Romo went 18-of-28 for 227 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, including one that looked like the result of some miscommunication between the quarterback and Dez Bryant.

It looked like the Cowboys would take a 14-0 lead into half but an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty called on Bryant and Terrance Williams after the touchdown and a short kick set the Dolphins up at their own 46 and they quickly marched down the field, scoring on a 12 yard pass from Tannehill to tight end Jordan Cameron. The drive took three plays, and just 52 seconds.

The Dolphins made up the other touchdown on the other side of halftime, when Kenny Stills caught a 29-yard touchdown pass from Tannehill, but unlike in recent weeks, the Cowboys didn’t fold at this point.

Instead, Romo opened up the fourth quarter with a 16-yard touchdown pass to Bryant. Bailey would add a field goal to extend the lead to 10, at 24-14, before the Cowboys essentially ran out the clock with Darren McFadden, giving the Dolphins just about a minute to work with, down 10 and with no timeouts, on their final drive.

McFadden finished with 129 yards on 29 carries, and new running back Robert Turbin added 35 on seven tries. The game ended on a DeMarcus Lawrence sack of Tannehill.

At 3-7, the Cowboys will face the undefeated Panthers on Thanksgiving Day.
