Cowboys One of Just 12 Teams Leaving Home for Camp

The Dallas Cowboys are going away for training camp this year, to Oxnard, CA, as they do every year. That used to be the norm in the NFL but, according to Pro Football Talk, it now puts them squarely in the minority.

The Cowboys are one of just 12 teams not using their home facilities for training camp in 2015. Compare that to the year 2000, in which 27 of the 32 teams in the league went offsite for camp.

The others going away for camp this year are the Saints, Bears, Redskins, Panthers, Raiders, Chiefs, Colts, Bills, Steelers, Vikings and Packers. The Vikings and Steelers have been camping at Mankato State University in Mankato, MN and St. Vincent College in Latrobe, PA, respectively, for the last 50 years. The Packers are in their 58th year of holding camp at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin.

Oxnard, CA, host to the Cowboys once again this year, has been their training camp home off-and-on since 2001. In years that they haven’t been in Oxnard, the Cowboys have held camp at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio. Beginning in 2016, the new facility in Frisco will be open, and the team is expected to spend at least part of training camp there.
