The Dallas Cowboys, their fans and their owner up in his box were laughing all the way to the bank early in Sunday night's rematch with the Eagles up in Philadelphia, and it all started with that opening kickoff and ensuing Cowboys touchdown.
Just a few minutes into the second quarter, the Cowboys took a 21-0 lead on Dez Bryant's second touchdown of his three on the night, and it seemed then that the rout was on.
But not so fast, my friends. In true Cowboys fashion, they found a way to let the Eagles back in the game and seemed well on their way to falling apart when the Eagles capped a 24-0 run with a Darren Sproles touchdown run with 5:42 left in the third quarter to take their first lead of the game at 24-21 — a lead that seemed much bigger than that.
Then, the offense hit the field again after a quarter of failure and all the momentum in the world going against them, and they went on what could turn out to be a season-defining drive in a hostile environment, stuffing a big ol' proverbial cheesesteak in the big mouths of all the Philly fans along the way.
Tony Romo was great on the drive, but he leaned on his biggest playmakers, who all helped get the job done on an 8-play, 72-yard drive that consumed nearly five minutes off the clock and put the Cowboys back in front to stay with under a minute to play in the third quarter.
The drive: DeMarco Murray, Dez Bryant, Jason Witten, Murray, Murray, Murray, Bryant, and Murray with a two-yard plunge into the end zone to finish it off. The clock never stopped on the drive. It was a thing of beauty, and it might've just saved the Cowboys' season.
