The Dallas Cowboys introduced their newest player, running back Ezekiel Elliott, at a news conference Friday afternoon.
Elliott, the No. 4 overall pick out of Ohio State, was the highest pick for a running back in the 26 years that Jerry Jones owned the team. After being picked Thursday night, Elliott said he didn't sleep much.
"It's been a whirlwind," he said. "It's starting to sink in. I'm honored to be a part of this prestigious organization."
The 6-foot, 225-pound Elliott finished with 3,961 yards at Ohio State. In the national championship game against Oregon at AT&T Stadium in 2015, he rushed for a school bowl record 246 yards and four touchdowns.
"I have a good track record at AT&T Stadium" he said, laughing. "It's a great stadium and I'm glad to call it home.
Head coach Jason Garrett said his ability was obvious on tape, but his coaches all raved about the quality person he was off the field as well as on.
"We're excited to hit the ground running," Garrett said.
Running back wasn't the Cowboys' top need, but owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Elliott was the top-rated player on their draft board. And now that player will be able to run behind one of the NFL's best offensive lines.
"Dallas is where I wanted to be," he said. "This is a dream come true."
