Sorry, Cowboys fans, but this is the kind of deal you never want. The kind of deal you can’t return. The kind of deal that you gives you buyer’s remorse, and that can singularly ruin a Holiday season.
Losing to the Eagles is no sin. They’re a good team having a great season. But having your warts exposed – in your own house – before a Thanksgiving afternoon national audience can be a fatal experience.
Thursday’s 33-10 loss wasn’t just the Cowboys’ worst of the season and largest since the 49-17 defeat in New Orleans on Nov. 10, 213, it was a resounding, comprehensive defeat that casts serious doubt on the remainder of the season. That 6-1 start is now a distant, fuzzy memory. The realization is setting in that this year’s 8-4 Cowboys are suddenly just one game better than last year’s Cowboys after 12 games.
Hate to be coal-in-your-stocking depressing on the busiest shopping day of the year, but I’m no longer buying what the Cowboys are selling.
We all remember Bill Parcells’ final game was Tony Romo’s bobbled snap in Seattle and Wade Phillips’ last stand was the embarrassing 45-7 loss in Green Bay in mid-2010.
For a team to be that outplayed and that outcoached in such a big game on such a huge stage, we might look back at 33-10 as Jason Garrett’s Waterloo.
