Oh, so we’re supposed to somehow feel better because of this?
The Mavs were right. Yet still they were wronged.
The NBA announced Tuesday that it was fining the L.A. Clippers – er, Flippers – $250,000 for violating rules prohibiting teams from offering players unauthorized business or investment options.
In other words, the Clippers’ re-recruitment of DeAndre Jordan after he had already orally committed to the Dallas Mavericks stunk.
It’s a Band-Aid on a broken leg. And maybe it’s just me, but having it confirmed that the Clippers cheated to steal back a spineless player who isn’t a man of his word doesn’t soothe the pain. Because fine or not, the Mavs aren’t fine.
Without Jordan they’re head first into Plan L, which will include at starting center Samuel Dalembert or Zaza Pachulia or some other random not named DeAndre Jordan. Or, for that matter, Tyson Chandler.
Sad thing about it: I’m betting the Clippers would do it – illegal even – exactly the same all over again if given the chance. Because, after all, having a dominating center for the next five years is worth much more than $250,000.
