The Captains took a 1-0 lead in the first with three straight two-out base hits including an RBI single by Jose Torres. They added to their lead in the second on an RBI double by Bryan Sabatella for a 2-0 advantage.

The Cats tied the game in the fifth on RBI doubles by Fryer and Michael Bell, but the Captains got a run in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-2 lead.

In the sixth, Ron Fenwick collected his first hit in a Cats' uniform with one out. After a Matt Combs double drove Shreveport-Bossier starter Ronald Lowe from the game, Fryer greeted reliever Tony Pierce with a two-run double to left, giving the Cats a 4-3 advantage. Fort Worth added three more runs in the frame on a two-run single by John Allen and a sacrifice fly by Ryan Patterson.

Shreveport-Bossier scored a run in the sixth on an RBI ground out by pinch hitter Selwyn Langaigne to narrow the lead to 7-4.

Joel Kirsten went five innings, allowed four runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and no walks to earn his second straight win and improves to 7-4 on the year.  Reliever Scott Vander Weg threw two scoreless innings in relief and Tyler Pearson went a scoreless eighth before Gary Lee notched his sixth save of the season as he closed out the game in the ninth.

Captains' starter Ronald Lowe permitted four runs, two earned on six hits in 5 1/3 innings of work as he suffered his sixth loss of the season.

The series continues on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. in Shreveport. The game will feature a match up of All-Star pitchers, Jae Jung for Fort Worth and Logan Williamson for Shreveport-Bossier.
