Carlos Gomez Expected to Play in Frisco on Rehab Assignment

Outfielder was place on the disabled list last month with a hamstring injury

More good news on the health front for the Rangers.

Centerfielder Carlos Gomez is expected to continue his rehab assignment in Double-A Frisco as early as Wednesday and could make his return to the Rangers lineup this weekend in Arlington against the Seattle Mariners.

Gomez was placed on the disabled list last month with a right hamstring injury. He spent the weekend at Triple-A Round Rock as the designated hitter, going 2-for-8 with an RBI. Gomez is in Houston working out with the team with hopes of seeing some time in the outfield during his rehab assignment. The Rangers face the division-leading Astros in a three-game series starting Monday night.

The innings and playing time could increase when he arrives in Frisco to make sure he's ready to get the green light to go this weekend. The righty was hitting .246 with four home runs and .331 OPS in 38 games prior to the injury.

The Roughriders start a four-game series with the San Antonio Missions Wednesday night at Dr. Pepper Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. in Frisco.
