Campers Stake Out Spots at TMS's Biggest Race

170,000 fans expected for Samsung Mobile 500

Some wet weekend weather didn't stop hundreds from parking their RVs at Texas Motor Speedway.

This weekend’s Samsung Mobile 500 will be the largest sporting event in Texas, according to Texas Motor Speedway. The event could bring out as many as 170,000 fans.

Some fans are already camped out.

“It’s a lot of fun," said Chuck Boyce. "It’s a lot of work, but it’s a lot of fun."

He and fellow fan Eddie Morrow have two RVs, half a dozen tables, tents and a TV.

“It’ll be today setting the canopies up and getting the tables out,” said Boyce, who had been setting up with Morrow since Saturday.

Boyce and Morrow are proudly calling their section of the camping ground “Redneck Estates." Four small, custom-made red rectangular street signs tell you when you get there.
