Beer, Bacon-Flavored Milkshake Debuts at Texas Motor Speedway

Bacon shakes debut at TMS Oct. 31 - Nov. 3

We've all been there -- wishing we had a third hand while trying to simultaneously hold a beer, a milkshake and a strip or two of bacon.

Leave it to Texas Motor Speedway executive chef Joel Pena to find a solution to the problem while continuing to push the pork-product envelope.

The chef's solution -- to simply mix the three together into a concoction he's creatively dubbed, The Shake 'n Bacon Brew.

Sounds simple enough, right? Pena shows just how simple in the how-to video above. The shake only requires five ingredients, including two of which that are North Texas staples: Fort Worth's Rahr & Sons Ugly Pug Black Lager and Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla ice cream.

In building his creation, Pena mixes six ounces of the lager with six ounces of ice cream and two ounces of bacon-infused maple syrup. After blending the mixture to the desired consistency, Pena pours it into a souvenir glass before topping the shake with the final flourish -- whipped cream and bacon crumbles; the perfect marriage of sweet and salty -- and beer.

The milkshake is not Pena's first bacon-flavored feather added to his chef's cap. He is also known for creating other novelty concessions, delectables like Hawg Heaven (bacon-flavored cotton candy) and the bacon martini. Pena has even orchestrated the marriage of brisket and a doughnut.  Yum.

All that adults-only fun can be had for $10.  A non-alcoholic version, Shake 'n Bacon Brewless, will also be available with root beer in place of the lager -- and also in a souvenir cup.

The Shake 'n Bacon Brew, and Brewless, will debut at TMS between Oct. 31 and Nov. 3 for the AAA Texas 500 NASCAR triple-header race weekend.  The shakes can be found in The Speedway Club as well as at the Pig Rig on the main concourse between Gates 3 and 4.
